enterprising approaches to equality
- fair play in 2002

The Enterprising Approaches to Equality project aims to work both directly with business (large and small companies) and with the business advice sector to increase the number of companies with active equal opportunities and related policies (e.g. family friendly policies).

Promoting equal opportunities is of crucial importance to all companies regardless of size, sector or location. New and changing equality legislation, European directives relating to equality, the changing composition of the labour market and greater international competition means that all businesses need to ensure that they are able to respond to the needs of a diverse market as well as able to recruit and retain staff of the highest calibre.

It aims to do this in a number of ways including:

• Direct training - both customised for individual companies and through general and open courses aimed either at business advisers, owner managers or HR practitioners in larger companies.
• Mentoring - one-to-one work with a range of companies with the aim of supporting the company in promoting specific equality policy and practice developments.
• Production of materials - including training packages, information packages and good practice case studies.

The training and mentoring provided within this project will be free to participating companies.
