Scottish Transport Access Review conference
held in Edinburgh, 16 September 2003
The Scottish Accessible Transport Alliance (SATA) is an organisation that brings together users, providers and service planners to work for the provision of accessible transport as a basic right for all people.
The Scottish Transport Access Review (STAR) Conference, held at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh on 16 September 2003, reviewed the travel options for disabled people and set out action required by public transport providers and policy makers. It also aimed to highlight good practice and create greater awareness of the issues.
Equal numbers of planners, operators and users were invited to contribute from their experience and also learn from others. With the help of speakers and facilitators, six seminar topics and questions were addressed, with opportunity for discussion. Agreement on key points for action from each session will be used to signpost the way to future progress.

Further information on transport issues can also be found by visiting the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) website at www.dptac.gov.uk. DPTAC advise the UK Government on access for disabled people to transport. They also advise on the built environment.
Its new website provides comprehensive information on what DPTAC does and the activities of its working groups. It focuses primarily on different transport modes, including air travel, buses, ferries, motoring, rail, taxis and walking and includes a new section on the built environment.
